Writer-Director Michael Mann’s 1995 Los Angeles crime saga, Heat, is perhaps his best film work. Without having to anguish about niggling facts and trusty timelines to regain in the arrangement (and cause critics to point them out) like in later films Ali or The Insider, this creative character-driven fraction of moviemaking mesmerizes through titanic lead and ensemble performances, direction, and storytelling. All three aspects work wonderfully in this fable of two opposing “crews” who go up against eachother on the streets of L.A.: a professional group of criminals led by master thief Neil MacCauley (Robert DeNiro) and LAPD’s elite Metro Robbery/Homicide lead by Lt. Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) .

Both leads, as the tale evolves, are crop from the same cloth: professional and dedicated to their chosen crafts–to a fault. Everything revolves around their jobs and nothing gets in their plan, including the women in their personal lives: Justine Hanna (the very underrated Diane Venora) and the soon-to-be enlightened Eady (Amy Brenneman) . It’s the long-suffering Justine that nails her husband’s suitable nature with her wifely realization: “You don’t live with me, you live among the remnants of wearisome people. You sift through the detritus, you read the terrain, you search for signs of passing, for the scent of your prey … and then you hunt them down. That’s the only thing you’re committed to. The rest is the mess you leave as you pass through.”

And it’s with that predator’s sense that Vincent spots MacCauley’s crew after the inital, spectacular armored truck robbery. He knows that a crew is in town who are obedient, skillful, and very unsafe (“At the plunge of a hat, these guys will rock ‘n roll.”) . Which is also the accurate description of their leader. However, in this case, the master thief is also growing weary of his trade…and the emotional discipline it requires.”I am alone…I’m not lonely.” he tells Eady after they first meet. His is a life that requires him be able to “saunter out on in 30 seconds flat if (he) feels the heat around the corner.” Neil is the good antithesis for Vincent, but both will do whatever it takes to do what they do best. Eventually, both earn out about the other half-way through the legend.

The meeting on-screen for Neil and Vincent (a first for actors DeNiro and Pacino) is the movie’s key dramatic sequence. This wary confrontation over coffee is one of the best moments achieve to film. It’s not long, but it’s one of those powerfully unruffled scenes that resonates throughout the rest of the film. The irony of the space is that each recognizes themselves in the other…and indulge in the professionalism they accumulate. Both, through their conversation, also are cognizant of the fact that each will keep the other down permanently, if need be. Some other reviewers have stated that is the only time they’ll allotment the mask time in this movie. Not suitable. Heat’s tense climax on the outskirts of LAX is another one of those colossal film scenes. Mann skillfully brings their budge and relationship to a poignantly attractive stop.

This film also has one of the best ensemble casts ever on celluloid: Pacino, DeNiro, Val Kilmer, Venora, Ashley Judd, Brenneman, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore, Mykelti Williamson, Wes Studi, Ted Levine, Dennis Haysbert, William Fichtner, and a young Natalie Portman. All of them giving sterling performances to an equally well written Michael Mann script. Filmed all over my hometown, and in some of the best and dreadful spots of Los Angeles, Heat makes ample employ of the locales with some breathtaking cinematography. It also has one of my all-time current action sequences, the Bank Heist in downtown (tragically, a real-life bank shootout in L.A. of hauntingly similar proportions would happen a couple of years later) . At almost three hours in length, it takes a committment, but the viewer will be well rewarded with drama highly praised for its depth in character development and spicy sequences. This was not only one of the best films of 1995, it was one of the best for that decade. Okay, I’ve convinced myself: it is Michael Mann’s best.

10 years after the release of Michael Mann’s anecdote crime tour de force, Heat is detached an absolute masterpiece. Originally a screenplay which sat on the shelf for almost twenty years before being greenlit, Heat is the perfect character driven crime drama. Mann pits Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as a dueling cop and crook whose lives fill ravishing resemblances to themselves. Vincent (Pacino) becomes obsessed in his case to abet hurry the reality of his failing marriage, while Neil (De Niro) is a frosty, collected, still and disciplined master thief who, with his skilled team (including Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore) are planning a heist which will change everyone keen forever. This portrait of these people and their failing personal lives sacrificed for their obsessive careers makes Heat the best film to advance from Mann, and undoubtadly the best substantial budget crime drama to arrive out of the 90’s. The face off between Pacino and De Niro is a film buff’s dream, and the climactic LA shootout is possibly one of the best action sequences in cinematic history. The rest of the cast, which includes Jon Voight, Diane Venora, Natalie Portman, Amy Brenneman, Ashley Judd, Mykelti Williamson, Wes Studi, Ted Levine, Kevin Gage, Denis Haysbert, William Fichtner, Danny Trejo, Henry Rollins, Tom Noonan, and Hank Azaria, does intelligent work. Truly a cinematic masterpiece. This fresh 2-disc Special Edition from Warner Bros. contains a broad commentary from Mann and a few nice featurettes, but the deleted scenes are hardly worth watching and add nothing to the film.

Mining a rarely tapped vein of German fantasy lore, the movie brings to life its unlikely hero in the fabricate of a middle-aged, at times elderly, German nobleman. Munchausen wanders the world — and occasionally places above and below — seeking despicable adventures with his generous companions: Albrecht, the strongest man alive; Berthold, the fastest man alive; Adolphus, who has astounding vision; and Gustavus, who has astonishing hearing and mighty lungs.

In the movie, an elderly Munchausen disrupts a theatrical production of his adventures in a 17th century city under seige by invading Turks. Munchausen’s efforts to station the describe straight are in turn disrupted by a cannon assault, and his attempt to quietly die in the theater’s ruins are interrupted by Sally Salt (Sarah Polley), a petite girl with a tremendous heap of stubborn. Sally is possibly the only person around who believes Munchausen is genuine, and her conception is impetus enough for the baron to dispense with dying long enough to try and assign the town.

John Neville is perfect as the dashing, resourceful and exceptionally lucky Baron Munchausen. In both the younger and older incarnations, he glows with the air of a tale reach to life, straight from a storybook wonderland. As his older self, he exudes curmudgeonly bitterness over this current Age of Reason which is eroding his tales. The world, he says, “is made of laws now. Laws of hydraulics, laws of social dynamics, laws of this, that and the other. No spot for three-legged cyclops in the South Seas. No station for cucumber trees and oceans of wine. No position for me.”

Ah, but there is. Sometimes, the world unprejudiced needs reminding.

Munchausen rides cannon balls, uses snuff to defeat a massive sea beast, dances on air, sails to the moon and generally cheats death. Most of the time. But always with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his scrutinize, like any wonderful, stalwart hero should. If you’re sizable on realism, pass this one by. But if you want to utilize your sense of wonder, assume up “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.” Please, enjoy he’s genuine or the town is lost.

Sometimes you despair. A unique format is trust upon us – and an opportunity is presented to the movie industry to finally to do the business by their classics – and what do they do – they give us the same conventional monotonous stock and rip us off by getting us to pay more for it.

Twenty years on, Terry Gilliam’s 1989 fantasy fable is peaceful fantastic – inventive, humorous, touching, and on a scale few movies today would even dare to go approach. Unfortunately, the 2008 transfer of it to the fresh format is more Blur-Ray than Blu-Ray. And while it’s not abominable all the map through – it’s not far off it. For big parts of the film there’s grain and blocking – the colours in some instances are better for distinct – but it’s also clear that exiguous or no restoration has been done to the print – when like “Time Bandits” – here is a fantasy film that is crying out for a orderly up – and would surely have been powerful more commercially viable if it had been cleaned up – and a grand deal made of it (even a re-launch in the cinemas? ) .

The extras mimic the special edition DVD mutter – reviewed elsewhere – nothing enormous.

When you examine “Icy Hand Luke” or “Zulu” or “2001: A Station Odyssey” on BLU RAY, the desirable up work is immediately apparent and evident throughout the entire film – making them an exquisite ’spot-the-difference’ experience for the whole duration. But you know you’re in grief with “Munchausen” the second the washed out “Columbia” logo comes up at the beginning – I’ve seen crinkled videotape examine better than this. What a titanic disappointment and what a disservice to a really mammoth fantasy film. I can only assume of the gobsmacking beauty of Uma Thurman as she appears in a seashell to cheer myself up…

Unfortunately this release is why Amazon reviews are well-known. Avoid this overly expensive unpleasant reissue unless you absolutely have to bear it…

While I am a very broad fan of Tupac Shakur, I will indicate this review based on the movie itself and not “what an AWESOME rapper” I deem he is or print my have half-baked theories on how he is really alive. I have noticed that beautiful noteworthy every review has offered very dinky detail on the film. With the countless amount of DVD’s and other product floating around, is there really a need for another movie based on the life of Tupac Shakur? Well, this movie does offer something that none of the others have before and that is narration by Shakur himself.

Courtesy of former audio interviews and soundbytes, Tupac tells the chronicle of his life in a scheme that few others could. From his birth as the son of a Murky Panther to his final days in Vegas, Pac goes into detail on it all. Though commentary on his fatal shooting is clearly actually that of his first shooting at a Fresh York recording studio, there are serene some very eerie moments here. He talks about his days on Death Row Records in the past tense even though he was there until the day he died, he predicts his gain downfall many times, and speaks candidly on a number of subjects that will really surprise you. The inclusion of Shakur’s music is another thing that helps seperate this from a lot of the other documentaries on his life. To be able to hear the man himself swear on some of his best and most controversial recordings while they play in the background makes a mountainous disagreement.

“Resurrection” really plays like a companion allotment to one of Pac’s albums. It provides all of the visuals to go with the stories that Pac tells in his complex rhymes. It isn’t objective a fable about rap music though. We’re not spending exhausting moments of time in the studio or on concert. This isn’t about Tupac the rapper. This movie noteworthy like the artist it depicts is bigger than honest its contributions to the world of rap music. The film spends most of its time examining the man himself. Going into depth about the controversy surrounding him. It gives him the microphone and allows him to fire encourage at the hypocritical politicians and Dismal leaders who try to dismiss his music as “gangsta rap” without even attempting to listen to the message tedious it. It allows him to assure in colossal detail about the trusty horrors of the ghetto. He talks about his experience in prison and how it nearly destroyed him inside. He give us his side of the account on his sexual assault conviction, his NY studio shooting, and the beef with Distinguished B.I.G. and Puffy.

At times, “Resurrection” makes the mistake of pointing us away from things that don’t indicate Shakur in the best of light. Well, it isn’t exactly a “fluff portion” but there were some details that seem conviently absent. There is a moment where Pac talks proudly about being delighted to work with Dr. Dre on Death Row but the movie never makes any mention of their falling out after Dre’s departure from Death Row. Pac’s feud with Biggie is the only one that actually gets covered while there were several others that at least deserved an suited mention.

For those Pac fans who are aloof pondering whether this film is worth the effect of admission given that you probably have seen or heard every interview and occupy every DVD, it is. Granted there were a handful of times where I recognized the source of the audio in his narration, it didn’t destroy the film at all for me. Seeing this one movie makes all of those other Pac documentaries seem like a end of money. Pac’s account finally gets the respect and attention that it deserves.

“Resurrection” is a very unusual film that really educates the average fan on the history of its subject. This film would honestly be best honorable for those who no small to nothing on Shakur but continue to dismiss him as some “loud-mouthed thug”. Sadly, it is that very ignorance that will maintain them from ever even giving the movie a chance. With this film, I contemplate Afeni Shakur has done something that I feel she was never able to attain in releasing all those posthomous recordings and that is to paint a portrait of Pac that really fits him well. I don’t like taking quotes from other reviews, I mediate Roger Ebert summed it up shapely well when he said “Even if you don’t intend to ever search for a rap documentary but might have in it you to scrutinize one. This is it.” This film might not convert you into a Tupac Shakur loyalist but if nothing else, it will give you a better conception of who he was and why so many young people of all races understanding him as such an significant figure.

“Tupac Resurrection” is a documentary celebrating the life of Grammy-nominated rapper Tupac Shakur. Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, serves as executive producer on the film, so this is really a loving tribute to her son, made for his many fans. Because MTV produced “Tupac Resurrection”, director Lauren Lazin was able to include material from MTV’s archives, which would otherwise not be available. Lauren Lazin has done a pleasurable job of presenting a coherent portrait of Tupac Shakur’s music, message, and personality, from his childhood in Harlem to his death in Las Vegas in 1996, at the age of 25. “Tupac Resurrection” isn’t going to convert anyone who doesn’t already like Tupac Shakur’s music or allotment his political convictions. His detractors will come by their justification in the film, and his fans will derive theirs. Perhaps ironically, that is the film’s strength. “Tupac Resurrection” uses a lot of interview audio, as well as the interviews, themselves, to note Tupac’s life in his believe words. He speaks for himself here. Afeni Shakur and director Lauren Lazin are to be commended for including the less admirable aspects of Tupac’s personality, including coverage of his 1994 trial for sexual abuse which resulted in Shakur serving eleven months in prison. Tupac Shakur once said that his life is a fable of “ambition, violence, redemption, and savor”. Appreciate him or abominate him, this is a very suited documentary about a man who not only cultivated the image of constant conflict, but also the reality.

The DVD: This is a very estimable package of bonus features for Tupac Shakur fans. In “Interviews”, you will obtain a never-before-seen interview from 1992, recorded by MTV while Shakur was recording “A Very Special Christmas, Vol. 2″ and an interview with Tupac and Snoop Dogg that was taped after the 1996 Music Video Awards. The “Malcolm X Dinner Speech” is a speech Tupac gave in 1992 at a dinner banquet given by the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. “Deposition” is a video taped deposition that Tupac gave in 1995 while in the Clinton Correctional Facility concerning a lawsuit. “About the Resurrection Soundtrack” features three songs from the movie accompanied by interviews with the artists: 2 songs by Eminem and one by 50 Cent. There are two videos in “Music Videos”. In “Remembering Tupac” ten actors and musicians and nine family members talk about what Tupac Shakur meant to them in mostly separate interviews. The celebrities include Jada Pinkett Smith, Snoop Dogg, Treach, Mary Jo Blige, and 50 Cent. “Mutulu Shakur Interview” is with Tupac’s stepfather. In “Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts”, Afeni Shakur talks about the performing arts center that bears her son’s name. “Bootleg This!” is a short statement concerning lawsuits against Tupac Shakur’s estate. Also included are some deleted scenes and an audio commentary featuring director Lauren Lazin, Tupac’s mother and executive producer Afeni Shakur, and some surprise guests. I wouldn’t recommend the bonus features if you’re simply fervent in learning about Tupac Shakur, but are not especially a fan. It really doesn’t provide any additional insight. But this is a gold mine for fans.

Alot has been said about this unbelievable movie, but with several versions offered, which DVD is the best? I learned the hardway, buying several copies until I decided for the more expensive ROAN GROUP DVD. They mastered their DVD from a very nice 35mm TECHNICOLOR print, the other DVD’s I bought were mastered from 16mm EASTMANCOLOR prints (grainy, shaded, and pale colors) . It is worth it to pay the higher impress, you find what you pay for.

I have unprejudiced purchased The Inspector General. As i am smooth a 59 year used teenager i remember seeing it when it first came out. My favourite Danny Kaye movie is tranquil The Court Jester but this is finish second. So many droll characters including the vast Alan Hale who will always be remembered as Limited John to Errol Flynn`s Robin Hood. Elsa Lancaster as the Mayors wife, Gene Raymond ( with a improbable hair style ) as the Mayor and of course Walter Slezak as phony medicine man who enlists the simple minded Danny for his improper ways.Danny Kaye was always at his best playing characters who were certainly not the sharpest tools in the box. An absolute must for any Danny Kaye fans collection

After the release of Volumes 1 & 2 most fans were elated to be able to occupy the first three and a half seasons of this classic enthralling series on studio released DVD. The jam with Disney is you can never hiss if they will attain releasing a series or murder it because of unpleasant sales or God knows why. Luckily fans of this series will be able to regain more episodes this September 22nd with the further release of X-men: The Intelligent Series with Volumes 3 & 4. Really every episode from this series can be considered a fan current but more noticable in this collection is the four allotment Sunless Pheonix Saga as well as Weapon X, Lies and Videotape, Nightcrawler and Obsession.

The audio & video quality we can demand will be the same as that of the first two volumes. Episodes tended to be in the same quality they aired with minor compression issues that go unnoticed by most and didn’t impede on my personal viewing enjoyment. Also the further we go into the series we should discover a monotonous loyal improvement on the genuine animation quality.

There are regrettably no special features on these volumes but given the fact we’re dealing with Disney that was to be expected. TELEVISION WAS BETTER IN THE NINETIES. Thanks for your time.

I am a child of the ’90’s, growing up in a time when television was in something of a golden age — the action was kicking harder, the humor was getting funnier but was collected new and tidy, and landmark shows such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” were getting their starts. Among this age, FOX network created FOXkids!, a viewing block that aired in the afternoons after school let out and also on Saturday mornings. Within this time, “X-Men: The Interesting Series” came into being.

Dealing with colossal social issues such as prejudice and reliable vs. harmful, “X-Men”, like the comics the demonstrate was based on, wrapped these issues in fun packaging with “mutants” and “clean powers.” Going on to be one of the most successful cartoons in FOX’s history, “X-Men” ran for a phenomenal five seasons. This is the first time that these beloved episodes are available in high-quality DVD format.

Volume Three of this collection picks up where Volume Two left off — the Phoenix Saga, one of the greatest of all comical book memoir arcs. Jean Grey joined with the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix Force and sacrificed her life to effect the universe. Now, the Phoenix has been driven excited by Jean’s humanity and her telepathic powers, helped by the mental manipulations of the disagreeable Inner Circle club, beginning the initiate of the myth Black Phoenix Saga.

Follow the X-Men as they fight for Jean Grey’s soul, as Apocalypse rises and the battle not only atrocious but prejudice and social adversity time and time again. Featuring everyone’s current funny characters (from Nightcrawler to Iceman to Archangel, to Cable and Apocalypse and Magneto), Volume Three will continue to delight fans of both silly and present.

Although there are regrettably no special features, these DVD collections — with a notice price of $15 a section — are well worth collecting as a brilliant example of a time when television was more than unbiased reality shows and sexual humor; a time when the media was relevant.

This gloomy episode plays like more of a TWILIGHT ZONE than most of the other entries, but it’s disturbing in its relate of massive danger and man’s tendency not to really listen. Chris Bauer stars as Larry Pearce, a supervisor at a software aid call in center, whose loss of his young son to heart disease has left him surly, frigid and insensitive. Laura Margolis plays his submissive wife who is enthusiastic to have a son to replace their loss. Unfortunately, another component of Pearce’s pain is his supersensitivity to sound where in any noise is overwhelming, leading him into a behind maelstrom of madness.

Bauer is quite excellent in assaying the difficult role, very convincing as he descends into violence and madness. A worthy entry in the uneven series.

Larry Pearce (Chris Bauer) is unbiased your average computer tech supervisor who unprejudiced lost his son. He has a special supernatural kind of hearing that lets him hear from very far away especially when he listens to conversations on the phone by his staff at work. However this kind of ability is driving him to the brink of insanity as he can’t stands no more especially his griefstruck over his son’s death.

A stirring and disturbing psychological apprehension thriller from Brad Anderson (Director of “Session 9″ and “The Machinst”) is a shiny and startling legend. It’s one of the more “Twilight Zone”-ish stories on the TV Exhibit as it gives us a character and social gaze about what it is to be someone else’s hold world of noise. The acting is quite beneficial and has one hell of a disturbing ending.

As a child, I remember my mother watching this on TV every year. When I was slightly older, I became wrapped up in the magic of “A Christmas Carol,” and would eagerly await this version on AMC every year. I never understood why Alastair Sims’ 1951 version was heralded as the ultimate version; for me, it was too contrived, too melodramatic, and Sims chews up the scenery.

This 1938 version is a warmhearted choose on Dickens’ classic epic of greed and redemption. Bob Crachit’s family is given a greater role than in the novel recent, and the strength of the ensemble cast shines. Reginald Owen as Scrooge was a last-minute replacement, since Lionel Barrymore (Mr. Potter in “It’s a Incredible Life”) was ill.
